The next Pegasus Network Lunch is on Thursday 17th August. Normally the club is closed in August but this is their last day before closing for leave.
The speaker is Richard Skaife who will talk on German SIGINT during WW2.
In 1988, NASA declassified a paper by General Albert PRAUN on German Radio Reconnaissance in WW2. This document provided an assessment of German Army signals intelligence organisations, activities and success in this field. Further research at that time proved futile and no further information could be found in the public domain.
In 2012 NASA started making information on the Target Intelligence Committee – TICOM available under the Freedom of Information Act. TICOM was a UK/US intelligence team which was set up in 1944 to investigate German Signals intelligence activities in WW2. Dr Skaife’s talk is based largely on Gen Praun’s document and the TICOM findings. The talk will explore some of the key German sigint activities prior to and during WW2. He will also examine some of the reasons for the limited success of Germany in this sphere.
