1 PARA Aden 1967 50th Anniversary Reunion

Saturday, October 28, 2017 to Sunday, October 29, 2017
12:00am - 11:59pm

Aldershot

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of 1 PARA’s operational tour in Aden and the tactical withdrawal on 29 Nov 1967, it is planned to hold a reunion for all those members of the battalion and attached Arms, who took part in this tour. The venue is Aldershot over the weekend Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th October 2017.

The aim will be to remember the three members of the battalion who lost their lives in the service of their country, with a commemorative service at The Royal Garrison (our Regimental) Church in Aldershot. We also want to rekindle old regimental friendships, forged during a hard and difficult operational tour. This is likely to be the last such reunion so please come and support your very own “Band of Brothers”.

Aldershot was chosen as the venue because it has the infrastructure to support this event. It is appreciated this decision has implications of additional costs for those living in Scotland and the North of England. However, the area has historical links for our generation and is the location of the Regimental Church which holds the commemorative kneelers of those who were Killed in Action.

The outline programme is as follows:

Saturday 28 October from 7pm (1900hrs). An optional, informal gathering with light snacks and a cash bar in the Conservative Club, Aldershot.

Sunday 29 October 11am (1100hrs). Memorial Service at the Royal Garrison Church, Aldershot, which will be combined with the normal Sunday Service, but will involve a special Order of Service during which our three fallen comrades, will be remembered. After the service, there will be a short march past with the Band of The Parachute Regiment, in the area of the Church. After the march past, all participants move to a designated venue.

Dress: Jacket/Blazer or Suit, Medals and PARA Regt, Battalion or Bilindicide Tie. Guests: 1 per veteran.

This Wng Order is the starting point in the planning of this Reunion, which we believe is very important to all those who were involved in this life-influencing operational tour.  We are also very keen to gather as many photos of the tour as possible. If you have any, please scan them and email them ASAP to Kerry Seekings (seekings.123@btinternet.com). It is hoped all those involved can give their full support to make this final reunion a success – “Our Last Hurrah!”
